hi. in my opinion your app is a must have, both for ppc and smartphone users. I keep questioning You when can we expect a smartphone release, but without any anwser till now... Personally, I feel a lack for that kind app and I hope You could fix it...:)

Hi, Robert

Thanks for your interest, LCMinutes can not run on Smartphone is because Smartphone is quite different with its Pocket PC Phone cousin: like the different security mode, lack of touchscreen, screen size limit, etc. And I was not sure how much interest there are for a Smartphone edition.

Do you mind letting me know some info of your phone: like WM5 or WM6 smartphone? screen size? And your phone's security mode, in other word, are you able to install LCMinutes if it's an unsigned application?

Thanks for such immediate anwser!:)
So... I've HTC s710 (spv e650-orange branded), it runs wm6. Screen size is 240x320. The security mode mentioned by You is very similar to the PPC security mode - It was application locked...till I've unlocked it with special patch:) Now I'm able to instal even unsigned applications.

Many application designed for PPC runs on smartphone (they sometimes have to be navigated with the fake cursor though). That's why I hope overmaking LCMinutes for smartphone may not be as difficult as You think...

I'm user of many forums about PPCs and smartphones, and I can assure You that people around the web are waiting for smartphone release as much as I do:)

Hope You won't keep us waiting too long...:/

Hi, Robert

Thanks for your detailed information, and I feel much relieved to know that even smartphone can be unlocked to install unsigned applications. I have never had a Windows Mobile smartphone.

I will try to make it work on Smartphone after my next release. I know I need to redesign at least the today plugin as the home screen plugin, and quite possibly the navigation for rate plan / balance settings.

Best Regards

It's great to hear that from You:) From now I will be looking forward to the smartphone release.
If You need someone to be beta-testing that smartphone version, I'll do it:)

Have a great day...;)

Your application is great.I use special rates but I can't set it in day and evening mode. They don't have normal and evening call. Please tell me can I set up this on my pocket and if I can how to do it?

Thank You,Your Blagojce,Macedonia

Hi, blagojce,

Unfortunately there's only simple per X seconds charge for special rates phone numbers. For any charge with time zones, you have to use the normal rates. At least for now.

And do you mind let me know your special rates details? I want to know whether it make sense to support more complicate rates for special rates.

I use T-mobile network. But we have two others networks, cosmofon and vip networks. In t-mobile aplications is working perfect. In specials rates like cosmofon I can't use it in weekend and evening rates. For example:
I use this [123:0.14:1;]for normal rates for 60 sec.But in weekend and evening I have to use this
[123:0.09:1;]for special rates, but I can't.This is my price list for all networks. You can see the differents in prices for special rates. This is link for t-mobile in our country.

Hi, blagojce

Thanks for the info, I will try to add weekend & evening rates support for special rates, like: 123:CB:0.23/0.09/0.05:60;: which means for phone numbers started with 123, its rates for weekday (peak time), weekend, evening (non-peak time) is 0.23, 0.09, and 0,05 respectively, and charged at every 60 seconds.

Please let me know how do you think of this solution.

Great app! A couple of suggestions: I am with Rogers and have a price plan which includes 125 local SMS and 25 long distance sms. Would there be a way of integrating the long distance part?
I'm not too sure how much work would be involved in this, and I know this is possible with the program as it is, but I have free Rogers to Rogers and quite a list of phone numbers in my contacts who are on the Rogers network, it would take quite some time to key them all into the special rates box with all the arguments. It would be very useful if you could integrate your app with the contacts so they could be added quickly.
Thanks! Keep up the good work

Hi, Alex,

Yes, I have a plan to support long distance SMS, in the near future.

I thought about adding a custom menu into contacts application to quickly add a number as a free number or a special rates number. But now I am adding support for rate plan importing/exporting, after that you will be able to edit the rate plan with any plain text editor and then just import it. I hope this will make inputing free number less pain.

Best Regards

Thanks a lot for your speedy reply, that does sound good indeed.

Actually when I wrote the last post I made call to one of the people on My5 that i put down in the special rates section.. and realized that it still counted as minutes from my weekday time. It may be an idea for phone numbers in the special rates with a rate of 0.00 not to deduct from the minutes...

thanks again!

LyonPlus said...

Hi, Alex

Thanks for the suggestion, I agree it makes more sense when the special rates is zero, the minutes should not be counted. I will try to change that.

BTW, do you mind let me know why you use special rates instead of free numbers for your My5 numbers?

Unknown said...

Sorry, you're right. I used free numbers for calls and added in all of them again in special rates for free sms.

By the way, if there is any coding that you either don't have time for or anything I would be happy to help. I understand that you are quite an accomplished software engineer so I don't think I could really offer anything substantial. But the offer is there if you need a hand.

Hi, Alex

Thanks very much for the offer of help.

Though I have more than 10 years in embedded software design, I am relatively new in the Windows Mobile world. To be exact, My serious coding experience on this platform is about 4 month now. ;)

I do have one issues now: how to track GPRS/UMTS traffic data. Do you have experiences on this field?

Don't know if You were asking about it, but there's something like Data traffic Monitor that enables tracking used data...

Hi, robert,

Yes, and I am still looking for it. So you have an idea? Please send me an email to lyonplus[AT]gmail[DOT]com, or leave your email address here.

BTW, the smartphone version is almost ready to be tested. I have tested on emulator, and I am doing some minor adjusting, I can send it to you for a try if you have the time.

Hi Lyon,

I have Moto Q from Sprint and installed latest LCMinutesSP.

The problem is I am not able to edit textbox values. I selected the Edit mode and every value looks like in the textbox. So when I move arrow buttons or press center button or enter button don't change anything.

Please help!

Thank you,
-Nyam

Hi, Nyam

You have to export your rate plan, modify it with any text editor, and then import it with Import menu item under setting dialog.
